Cultural Intelligence

Image
When we add multiple cultures to the new tribes of today, we will need to put in place a paradigm of understanding or different understandings of stakeholders' cultural boundaries. Rather than being exclusive of the cultures or, as is often happening these days, just tollerating cultures, the modern tribe needs to encompass all-inclusive acceptance of all ways of looking at life and the diversity of backgrounds that lie within a group. The cultures have been built over time to estabilsh collective identities through material symbols and by stimulating the senses. Each culture has a specific natural rhythm of life and has built its identity of this rhythm through music, the arts, the way they dress and appear, their rituals, their beliefs and making their traditions out of these ways of showing up. In some indirect way, making a tradition is a way of aknowledging all others traditions. It is a way of encompassing all other ways of living. Therefore, we could say that the anci...

Collective Intelligence

Image
Today, it is time to look at Collective Intelligence. Collective Intelligence is the reason why the human race has survived. It has been the one weapon in which humans are superior and other animals are limited by. Humans can form large groups and collective beliefs that can span over continents. Collective Intelligence can be used to develop meaningful tribes through common belief and ritual, giving each tribe member a role, or it can be used as a weapon to banish other tribes by way of propaganda and forming armies. If humans are not careful, collective intelligence can also cause the human race to be self destructive, for example, by adopting common unhealthy lifestyles based on manipulative subliminal advertising convincing people you can't live without products which are unknowingly unhealthy. For good or for bad, collective intelligence is very much at work and it is up to us if we want to form groups with ethical grounds or not! A modern warrior seeks divinity eventually...

Connection Intelligence

Image
Today, we'll take a look at connection intelligence. George Leonard, founder of the Samurai Game® made an eye-opening observation about the universe. In a public talk about his book, The Silent Pulse, A Search for The Perfect Rhythm That Exists in Each of Us, Leonard stated that, whilst we are all as unique as a thumb print, it is remarkable that, at the same time, we are all interconnected. The fact is that connection is a universal principle and that it was there before the times of the telephone and other communication methods. Connection is what brings us together to form families and communities. It starts at the sub-atomic level. Atoms connect to form molecules, molecules connect to form cells, cells connect to form organisms, organisms connect to form species, species connect to form kingdoms of life. For building communities, connection starts at the relationship level. When we form relationships and friendships, we expand our networks and we establish a belonging t...

Emotional Intelligence

Image
Today's topic is emotional intelligence. Let's look at how the ancient warrior developed it compared to how we might like to develop it today. The term "emotional intelligence" was first coined around the 1940s. Of course, whilst humans of ancient times had emotional intelligence they may not have given it a name or identified it the same way as we do now. Today's standard definition of emotional intelligence is generally understood as self and social awareness and the regulation based on those awarenesses. The ancient warrior that lived in a tribe certainly had those awareness within the tribal structure. Their emotional intelligence was most likely developed based on real, sometimes traumatic, experience which deepened their understanding of themselves. They therefore had a natural development of emotional intelligence through the exposed vulnerability to life's grueling challenges. In modern times we are often sheltered as we tend to enjoy the conven...

Body Intelligence

Image
Today, Let's Look at Body Intelligence: Body intelligence may be considered an evolved intelligence that developed with the ways humans have used their bodies over the centuries. It is the awareness of how we use our bodies but it is also the body’s own inate awareness of how the body uses itself. We can see body intelligence in two different ways. One is the way we are aware of our body’s signals and know how to adapt and re-balance to homeostasis on a conscious, cognitive level. The other is that sub-conscious intelligence which the body ‘knows’ and uses to maintain balance seemingly automatically. They sound like two separate ways of thinking of intelligence and yet they are actually very much interconnected levels of consciousness. The past warrior trained the body daily preparing for war or preparing to defend their kingdom. Despite all of our wonderful health programmes and gym training routines, the “conventional” workouts we do these days would be no match to the ki...

Modern Warrior Practice

Image
How to train as a Modern Warrior Compared to Past Ancient Warrior: It's not enough to make philosophies about psychology and positive thinking. It's not enough to theorize about how humans can improve their potential. If we truly want to evolve in an improved vivid lifestyle and harmoniously participate as an active member of our communities we need training. We need practices. I use the term "Modern Warrior" to encompass the kinds of practices a person would need in order to transcend from a conventional life to a realized existence as an evolved human being on individual, relationship and community levels. Why the term "Modern Warrior". I consider many of the practices we need are related to those practices ancient warriors needed in centuries before. However, since most of us are living in societies of relative peace, we may want to eliminate or change those training methods of the past and put them into a more relevant context of today's way...
